Before You Install Configuration Manager 2007 R2

Before you install Configuration Manager 2007 R2, verify that your environment is consistent with the supported configurations and that you have a supported upgrade path. For more information, see Configuration Manager 2007 R2 Supported Configurations in the Configuration Manager Documentation Library.

Important
Configuration Manager 2007 R2 is an upgrade release. You must run Setup on an existing Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 site.

About the Product Documentation for Configuration Manager 2007 R2

Comprehensive information about Configuration Manager 2007 is available in the Configuration Manager Documentation Library. The Library includes introductory topics, such as overviews of features and concepts, and in-depth technical discussions and technical reference information. The Library contains information about all versions of Configuration Manager 2007, including Service Pack 1 and R2. Information about Service Pack 1 and R2 is labeled as being specific to that version.

  • When you run splash.hta from the setup media, click the link for Product Documentation.
    Note
    If you run splash.hta from a UNC path on a computer running Windows Server 2003 SP1, the content for Configuration Manager 2007 Documentation might not be displayed.   • If you have already installed Configuration Manager 2007, Help is available in the Configuration Manager 2007 console by pressing F1, by clicking Help buttons, clicking Help on the Action menus, or by clicking some hyperlinks. After Configuration Manager 2007 is installed, the file SMSv4.chm is installed in %windir%\Help.

Known Issues with System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2

The following sections provide the most up-to-date information about issues with Configuration Manager 2007 R2. These issues do not appear in the product documentation and, in some cases, might contradict existing product documentation. Whenever possible, these issues will be addressed in later releases.

SQL Reporting Services

Setup

Unknown computers do not appear in the unknown computers collection.

When installing Configuration Manager 2007 R2 on a child primary site that reports to a Configuration Manager 2007 R2 parent site, unknown computers do not appear in the unknown computers collection by default.

WORKAROUND   Right-click the unknown computers collection, and then click Update Collection Membership.

How to Delete a Virtual Application Package from a Target Computer

You can use one of the following methods to delete a virtual application package from a Configuration Manager 2007 client computer.

Important
To delete a virtual application package from a target computer, you must select Remove this package from clients when it is no longer advertised on the General page of the virtual application package properties dialog.

  • Delete the Configuration Manager 2007 advertisement associated with the virtual application package.
  • Remove the Configuration Manager 2007 client computer from the collection that receives the virtual application package advertisement by modifying the collection membership rules so that the target computer no longer meets the collection membership requirements.
    Important
    To remove a computer from the collection, you should modify the rules associated with the collection so that the target computer no longer meets the collection membership requirements. You should not right-click the target computer in the collection and select Delete because that will delete the computer from the Configuration Manager 2007 database.

    When the target computer no longer receives the virtual application package advertisement, the virtual application package and associated applications will be removed from the target computer.

SQL Reporting Services

Re-running a displayed SQL Reporting Services report after changing its properties does not refresh the display of the report in the Configuration Manager console

When you modify the properties of a displayed SQL Reporting Services report in the Configuration Manager console and then re-run the report, the report display is not refreshed.

WORKAROUND   In the Report Options dialog box, select Open reports in a new window and then re-run the report. Alternatively, close and then reopen the Configuration Manager console and run the report again.

Reporting Services Point generates error status message when connecting to SQL Reporting Services 2008

Configuration Manager 2007 R2 provides support for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services. However, even when SQL Reporting Services is installed and configured correctly, the reporting services point will generate the error status message “SRS is not installed or properly configured on SRS Reporting point server” every 60 minutes.

WORKAROUND   None. However, this error message will not affect the operation of SQL Reporting Services in Configuration Manager 2007 R2.

When clicking a link in a SQL Reporting Services report to drill to a linked report, the error “The <Parameter Name> parameter is missing a value” might be displayed

This error message might be displayed under the following circumstances:

  • The linked report requires parameters that are not being passed from the parent report.
  • One of the parameters to the linked report has a valid list of values (retrieved by a SQL query), and the value being passed from the parent report is not contained in this list.

WORKAROUND   Run the linked report directly, and manually specify the required parameters. Alternatively, run the Configuration Manager report instead of the SQL Reporting Services report.
