out with the help of an Activation Wizard that is built into the program.
The Activation Wizard has a friendly interface and is used for sending
the necessary activation information to ABBYY. The same wizard is used for
entering the Activation Code you receive from ABBYY during activation.
Activation information is sent as a code (Installation
ID) which is generated on the basis of information about the computer on
which the program is being installed. No personal information about the user or
computer is used for generating this code and this code cannot be used for
identifying the user.
Important! You must have
administrator's rights in order to be able to activate ABBYY Lingvo 11 on your

Internet connection is required for this type of activation.
- By e-mail

containing information required for activation. To ensure a quick reply from
the mail robot, do not alter the information in the message body or Subject
field.
-
Other
An Activation
Code can also be obtained form the ABBYY
Registration
and Activation Service.
An Activation Code contains 96 characters and may take some time to dictate
over the telephone.
In the case of activation via the Internet, the
whole process is carried out automatically. In the case of activation e-mail, the user needs to enter the Activation Code received from ABBYY
in the corresponding fields of the Activation Wizard.
Attention!

Installing dictionaries on memory cards
ABBYY Lingvo 11 Pocket PC dictionaries can be
stored either in the main memory or on memory cards.
To install dictionaries on a memory card, do one of the following:
- Run the PDA Setup Manager on your desktop PC and
specify a memory card as the destination folder;
- On the memory card, create a folder and name it Program Files (unless such folder already exists). In this folder,
create a folder named ABBYY Lingvo. In the ABBYY Lingvo folder, create
a folder named Dic and copy the desired dictionaries into this folder
by means of a Card Reader device or by using third-party applications.
(The full path to the folder will be as follows: \SD Card\Program
Files\ABBYY Lingvo\Dic.)
We recommend closing ABBYY Lingvo 11 Pocket PC before plugging or unplugging
memory cards with dictionaries. If you do not wish to close down the program
while plugging/unplugging the memory card, you will need to
open the Dictionaries dialog box (Tools>Options...)
to make the dictionaries on the card available to the program.
Important! When storing dictionaries on more than one memory card, the
Repair feature of the PDA Setup Manager may function incorrectly.
9. Using the
"Repair" function of the PDA Setup Manager when working with
memory cards
- If you store some of your dictionaries on an
external memory card, you have to connect this card before using the Repair
function. ABBYY Lingvo 11 will display an error message each time it cannot copy a
dictionary that is to be stored on an external memory card.
- If you have stored your dictionaries on
several memory cards, the Repair function may work incorrectly
trying to place on one connected memory card all the dictionaries which are
to be stored on memory cards. If the card runs short of memory, ABBYY Lingvo
11 will
display an error message warning you that some dictionaries cannot be copied.
10. Placing the ABBYY
Lingvo 11 Pocket PC icon in the Start menu
When installing ABBYY Lingvo 11 Pocket PC under
some localized operating systems, the setup program may identify your
start menu folder incorrectly. In this case, the setup program may place
the ABBYY Lingvo 11 icon in the standard Start menu folder used by English-language
operating systems (Windows\Start Menu).
If the setup program has not placed the
ABBYY Lingvo 11 Pocket PC icon into your Start menu, try rebooting your
Pocket PC. If this does not remedy the situation, copy ABBYY Lingvo.lnk from
Windows\Start Menu\Programs into the folder that is used as the Start menu folder in your
localized version of the operating system (e.g. \Windows\Ñòàðòîâîå Ìåíþ\Ïðîãðàììû). Now
you can launch ABBYY Lingvo 11 in the usual way by selecting ABBYY Lingvo
in Start>Programs.
11. Essential
dictionaries
The Essential dictionaries are abridged
versions of the corresponding Universal dictionaries. They provide only the most common
and frequent translations.
12. Translating words and
phrases from Microsoft Internet Explorer (for Pocket PC/ Pocket PC 2002) and Microsoft
Reader
Copying text to the clipboard from Microsoft Internet
Explorer (for Pocket PC/ Pocket PC 2002) and Microsoft Reader has certain peculiarities
which make on-the-fly translation by pressing a hardware button impossible.
To translate
words and phrases from these programs, copy the text to the Clipboard via the
shortcut menu, launch ABBYY Lingvo, and select the Translate Clipboard
command on the Tools menu.
13. Fonts and morphology in user
dictionaries
To view some user dictionaries created by
independent lexicographers you may have to install special fonts (such as Arial
Unicode MS) and specify these fonts in Tools>Options>Fonts.
If the source and target languages of a user dictionary are supported by the
system, (i.e. the corresponding language files are supplied with ABBYY Lingvo 11
Six Languages), you can install morphology support for these languages when
installing the program. If the source or target language of a user
dictionary is not supported by ABBYY Lingvo 11 Six Languages, you need to add
morphology support for such languages manually. To be able
to look up words in any grammatical form in such user dictionaries, do the
following:
- Copy the *.amd and *.amm morphology files for the
language concerned from the ABBYY Lingvo CD-ROM (Disk2/2>PDA tools>Pocket
PC Morphology) into the ABBYY Lingvo
folder on your desktop PC (Program Files>ABBYY Lingvo 11>LingvoCE>Dictionaries);
- Run the PDA Setup Manager on your desktop PC (Start>Programs>ABBYY
Lingvo 11>PDA Setup Manager>Pocket PC, Smartphone (Windows
Mobile®)). The language of the copied morphology
dictionary will be added to the list Morphology dictionaries for
translating words typed in any grammatical form;
- Select the added language and click Next.
14. Using a hardware
button to launch Lingvo
If Lingvo fails to launch or translate words from
other applications when you press the assigned hardware button on your Pocket
PC device, please re-assign the hardware button by going to Options/General in
Lingvo and checking Assign Lingvo to the program hardware button. This
problem may occur if you have re-assigned some of the hardware buttons via the
Settings/Buttons dialog box of the operating system of your Pocket PC.
