1. Symbian OS v7/8 series 60.
2. Memory:

• The English-Russian edition: 200 KB on memory card to store the files; 1 MB in main memory for program operation; 9-110 MB on memory card to store dictionaries.
• The Six Languages edition: 200 KB on memory card to store the files; 1 MB in main memory for program operation; 9-220 MB on memory cards to store dictionaries.

3. Nokia® PC Suite to connect your smartphone and desktop PC.

We recommend using Nokia® PC Suite supplied with your smartphone.

To install ABBYY Lingvo 11 Smartphone for Symbian OS™ on your smartphone:

1. Place the  ABBYY Lingvo CD-ROM (Disk1/2) into the CD-ROM drive of your desktop PC;
2. Run Nokia PC Suite and make sure that the smartphone is communicating with the desktop PC;
3. Use the Installing applications module to install the lingvo_s60.sis file, located in the Series 60 Platform folder on Disk1/2;
4. Follow the instructions of the setup program;
5. Use the File transfer module to copy the desired dictionaries from the Disk1/2\ABBYY Lingvo\Dic folder into the ABBYY Lingvo\Dic folder on a memory card.

To install ABBYY Lingvo 11 Smartphone for Symbian OS™ without using Nokia PC Suite:

1. Copy the lingvo_s60.sis file from the Series 60 Platform folder on Disk1/2 onto a memory card by using a Card Reader device or third-party applications;
2. Use the same method to copy the desired dictionaries from the Disk1/2\ABBYY Lingvo\Dic folder into the ABBYY Lingvo\Dic folder on the memory card;
3. In the File Manager of your mobile phone, browse to the  lingvo_s60.sis file on the memory card and run this file;
4. Follow the instructions of the setup program.
    

To run ABBYY Lingvo 11 Smartphone for Symbian OS:

1. Press the menu button on your phone;
2. In the main menu that opens, select ABBYY Lingvo and then press the centre of the navigation key to confirm your choice.

Removing the Program

To remove ABBYY Lingvo 11 Smartphone for Symbian OS from your smartphone:

1. Run the App. manager on your phone (main menu>Tools>App. manager);
2. In the list of available applications, select Lingvo and then select Options>Delete;
3. In the File Manager of your mobile phone, browse to the ABBYY Lingvo\Dic folder where you installed the dictionaries and remove the dictionary files by selecting Options>File>Delete.

Main window elements:

• The word list displays the alphabetically arranged list of words from all the enabled dictionaries for the current translation direction. Use the navigation key to browse the word list. Alternatively, you can start typing the word to jump to it in the word list.

• The search field is the field where you can enter a word or phrase to translate.

• Selecting the Options button (or pressing the left selection key) opens the main window menu.

• Selecting the Exit button (or pressing the right selection key) closes the program.

A card displays the translations of the word or phrase you typed in the search field and additional information about the word or phrase.

The title bar of the card displays the name of the dictionary in which the card has been found and the translation direction.

Note: The digits under the name of the dictionary designate the number of the current dictionary/the total number of dictionaries in which the word or phrase has been found.

Heading. Displays the headword of the entry.

Entry. The entry may have several zones:

• Translations zone - Displays the translations of the headword and its transcription.
• Examples zone - Displays illustrative examples for the headword and its strong collocations, if any.
• Comments zone - Displays grammar and usage labels, grammatical forms, synonyms, antonyms, and comments.

You can use the navigation key to navigate the text in a card. Use the number 2 and 5 keys on the numerical pad of your phone to thumb through the text of the card. Place the cursor on a desired word in the card and press the centre of the navigation key to view its translation.

Note: To search for a word or phrase in the text of the card:

1. Select the Options button (or press the left selection key) and on the card menu that opens, select the Find command (or press the 7 key on your smartphone);
2. In the Find dialog box that opens, enter the word to search and press OK.

Selecting the Options button (or pressing the left selection key) opens the card menu.

Selecting the OK button (or pressing the right selection key) closes the card window and switches back to the main program window.

Note: The number keys in the right-hand column can be used to call the corresponding commands without opening the card menu first.

In ABBYY Lingvo 11 Smartphone for Symbian OS you can select and change program options as you work.

To change the current translation direction:

1. In the main program window, select the Options button (or press the left selection key);
2. On the main window menu that opens, select the Direction item and then press the centre of  the navigation key;
3. Select the desired translation direction from the list and press the centre of the navigation key to confirm your choice.

To enable/disable a dictionary:

1. Open the Dictionaries dialog box (Options>Select dictionary);
2. In the dialog box that opens, select the desired translation direction and confirm the selection by pressing down the navigation key;
3. In the dialog box that opens, select the name of the dictionary you wish to enable/disable and then select Options>Disable or Options>Enable accordingly.

To change the priority of a dictionary:

1. Open the Dictionaries dialog box  (Options>Select dictionary);
2. In the dialog box that opens, select the desired translation direction and confirm the selection by pressing down the navigation key;
3. In the dialog box that opens, select the name of the dictionary whose priority you wish to change and then select Options>Move Up to raise its priority or Options>Move Down  to lower its priority.

To view brief information about a dictionary, select the dictionary and then select Options>About dictionary.

ABBYY Lingvo 11 Smartphone for Symbian OS will look up words and phrases in the enabled dictionaries for the current translation direction. You can look up a word or phrase:

• by selecting it in the word list
• by selecting it in the card

ABBYY Lingvo 11 Smartphone for Symbian OS translates words and phrases within the current pair of languages.

To browse the word list:

1. Use the navigation key to select the desired word or phrase in the list;
2. Press the centre of the navigation key to confirm the selection.

Note: you can start typing the word to jump to it in the word list.

If you encounter an unfamiliar word in a card, you can look it up immediately.
To look up a word you have encountered in a card:

1. Use the navigation key to select the desired word or phrase in the text of the card;
2. Press the centre of the navigation key to confirm the selection.

We recommend using Nokia PC Suite supplied with your smartphone. To install ABBYY Lingvo 11 Smartphone for Symbian OS™ dictionaries on your smartphone:

1. Place the  ABBYY Lingvo CD-ROM (Disk1/2) into the CD-ROM drive of your desktop PC;
2. Run Nokia PC Suite and make sure that the smartphone is communicating with the desktop PC;
3. Use the File transfer module to copy the desired dictionaries from the Disk1/2\ABBYY Lingvo\Dic folder into the ABBYY Lingvo\Dic folder on a memory card.

Note:

• Alternatively, you can copy dictionary files in to the ABBYY Lingvo\Dic on a memory card by using a Card Reader device or third-party applications.
• Installing more than 10 dictionaries will considerably slow down the program.

To remove dictionaries from a memory card:

1. In the File Manager of your mobile phone, browse to the ABBYY Lingvo\Dic folder where you installed the dictionaries;
2. Remove the dictionary files by selecting Options>File>Delete.
