Providing FTP or SFTP information

The purpose of this dialog box is to enter information about the FTP or SFTP server.

To let users connect by using FTP or SFTP, be sure you know the server name, user name, and password required to connect to the server. If you’re not sending users your FTP or SFTP login information, make sure they understand how to enter their own login information. Many less experienced computer users don’t understand that FTP or SFTP login information is different from the user name and password they might use to log in to their local computer network.

  1. Enter the FTP address of your server.

  2. Enter the FTP user name.

    Your FTP user name and password may be different from your network user name and password.

  3. Enter the FTP password

  4. (Optional) To configure FTP to work with a firewall, click the Advanced button. For more information, see Setting advanced connection settings.

Some organizations use a firewall, a system that prevents unauthorized access to an intranet from outside. If your organization has a firewall, you may need to configure Contribute to work with it. You would also need to know whether your firewall supports passive FTP and whether you must provide a firewall host name and port number. If you are not sure how the firewall supports FTP access, consult your organization’s network administrator.
