Setting the File Placement options in the Role Settings dialog box

Use the File Placement category to specify folders in which to place files linked to web pages based on the type of file (such as images, Microsoft Office documents, or SWF content). By default, all images and document types are placed in a folder relative to the document in which they are being placed. You can specify that certain file types be placed in a folder that you create anywhere in a site. For example, you might decide to have all image files with a .jpg, .jpeg, or .gif, extension placed in a folder named Image at the site’s root folder.

To add a new file type to the list of dependent files:

  1. Click Add to add a new document type extension.

  2. Complete the options in the File Placement Rule dialog box, specifying which file extensions you want and where to place them.

  3. Click OK.

The file type you added, and the folder in which such file types are placed appear in the list of file types and their locations.

  4. To add more file types and folder locations, click Add and repeat the previous steps.

To remove a file type:

  1. Select the file type you want to remove from the list of file types.

  2. Click Delete.

Note: You cannot remove the All images or All other documents file types. These are default Contribute file types.
  3. Click Yes in the confirmation dialog box.

The file type is removed from the list.

When you remove a file type from the file placement list, the folder placement for files with that extension reverts to a folder relative to the document in which it’s being placed.

To edit a file type:

  1. Select the file type you want to edit from the list of dependent file types.

  2. Click Edit.

The File Placement Rule dialog box appears.

  3. Edit the options in the dialog box.

To prevent users from inserting linked files larger than a certain size:

  1. Select Reject linked files (except images) that exceed max file size.

  2. Enter the maximum file size (in kilobytes) in the Max file size text box.

In addition to preventing users from inserting files larger than a certain size, you can stop users from inserting files (except for image files) by entering a value of 0 for the maximum allowable file size.
