Setting the New Images options in the Role Settings dialog box

Use the New Images category to limit the file size of images a user can add to a page.

  1. Select Enable Contribute image processing when inserting images to let users modify images using the Contribute image editing tools. This option is selected by default. Deselecting it prevents users from modifying images inserted into web pages using Contribute.

  2. Automatically reduce image dimensions if they exceed these limits lets you specify the dimensions and file size of images that users can add to a page. This option is selected by default when you enable Contribute image processing. If users are allowed to add images other than those available in a Shared Assets library, you must specify what restrictions you want to apply to the dimensions and file size of images that users add to a page. Select from the following options to specify how new images should be added to a page:

    Max width and Max height
reduces the dimensions of the image to the size you specify. The default settings reduce images to 700 x 700 pixels.

    JPEG quality
lets you specify the degree to which Contribute compresses JPEG image files. Image compression is a trade-off between file size and image quality; the greater the amount of compression, the lower the quality of the image.

Reject images that exceed max file size
sets the maximum file size (in kilobytes) of an image that a user can insert into a page. Contribute does not allow users to add an image greater than the specified size.

  3. Select another role settings category to modify, or click OK to apply your changes.
