Setting advanced connection settings

The purpose of this dialog box is to set options for your organization’s FTP connection and firewall, and to apply additional security for accessing your website.

To set advanced connection settings, select the options you want to apply:
Let Contribute Automatically Detect FTP Server Settings
Lets Contribute automatically detect the FTP settings of the server to which you are connecting. If you select this option, the manual FTP settings are disabled.

Choose FTP Server Settings Manually
Lets you specify the FTP settings to use with your server.

Use Passive FTP To Connect To The Server
Lets Contribute initiate the FTP connection, rather than relying on the remote server to set it up. To use passive FTP, the firewall must be configured to allow the FTP client to set up the FTP connection.

Use FTP Performance Optimization
Lets Contribute optimize the connection for better performance.

Use Alternative Publish Method
Lets you use rollback files with FTP connections. If rollbacks are enabled and you receive errors when you publish pages, select this option to change the way Contribute writes rollback files to the FTP server.

Use FTP Proxy Settings When Connecting
Lets you specify a firewall host and the port number through which FTP access is allowed. If you select this option, or if you click the FTP Proxy Settings button, the FTP Proxy category of the Preferences dialog box appears; enter the name and port number of the FTP Proxy host through which FTP access is enabled.
Note: The FTP Proxy category is part of the Contribute Preferences dialog box. The FTP Proxy host and port number are global settings for the entire application, not just for the website connection you are creating. You cannot create multiple Contribute website connections using different FTP Proxy settings.

Encrypt Connection Information For All Websites And Blog Sites
Prevents unauthorized users from modifying your website when using the locally installed copy of Contribute.

Require Contribute Startup Password On User’s Computer (For Connection Export Only)
Lets you protect access to websites from unauthorized users by requiring anyone using your computer to log in to Contribute. If you select this option, Contribute opens the Security Preference dialog box; type the login password you want users to enter and then confirm the password.
Note: The Security category is part of the Contribute Preferences dialog box. The Contribute startup password is a global setting for the entire application, not just for the website connection you are creating.
