Publish a new page to your website

When you publish a new page to your website, Contribute asks you to name the file for the page and any other new pages the page links to. Contribute publishes the new page and all pages it links to on your website. Publishing all pages that are linked from the new page helps ensure that you do not have broken links on your website.

If you haven’t added a link on an existing page to your new page, website visitors won’t be able to view the page. Remember to go to an existing web page before (or just after) you publish a new page, and add a link to the new page (see Link to a draft or a recently published page on your website).

You can create a link to the page at the same time that you create the page. For more information, see Link to a new page.
  1. In the new page draft you’re editing, click the Publish button in the toolbar.

Note: You must have publish permissions assigned to your role to publish a page assigned to you. Contact your site administrator for details. Depending on the role the Contribute administrator assigned you, you might not be able to publish.

The Publish New Page dialog box appears.

  2. Change the filename. Click the Choose Folder button to save this draft in another location on your website.

For more information, see Completing the Publish New Page dialog box options.

Note: Contribute automatically saves the file with the same name as the page title.
  3. Click Publish or Next.

Note: You will be prompted to link a new page to an existing page. After you publish the new page, be sure to create a link to it (see Link to a draft or a recently published page on your website).

If your new page draft links to any other new pages, the Publish New Linked Pages dialog box appears.

  4. If the Publish New Linked Pages dialog box appears, for each unpublished linked page, select the page name, file name, and folder location.

  5. To publish all linked pages with the same workflow as the page being published, select Publish All Dependent Pages Whose Workflow Is The Same As The Main Page.

Note: For linked pages with a different workflow, the location on the site is finalized, but the pages are not published until their workflow is complete.
  6. To set a different expiry date than the one set by the administrator for the web page, select the date in the Page Expires On option. (Optional.)

  7. Click Publish.

For more information, see Completing the Publish New Linked Pages dialog box options.

Contribute publishes the new page to your website and displays it in the Contribute browser.
