Microsoft Services for Network File System provides a server-side implementation of the Network File System.
With this package, servers can support both Windows and UNIX based clients using NFS v2 and NFS v3. This
administration tool is used to configure the NFS server settings for error reporting, character translation, and user
name mapping. It is not intended to be used to control what is shared to whom.
The service consists of three components, the file server, the User Name Mapping Server, and the Authentication
Server. The User Name Mapping server uses maps to find equivalence between UNIX and Windows user accounts.
The User Name Mapping server can run on the same machine as the file server, or a different machine. The maps are
created and maintained using this tool, and stored as files on the User Name Mapping server machine. The Authentication
Server allows the file server to authenticate Windows users in order to satisfy file requests on their behalf, and does not have any
tunable parameters.
The Settings tab may be used to specify the User Name Mapping Server to which the file server
should connect.
To view and configure the settings for a service, click that service
in the console tree.
To save changes that you make to the settings, click Apply in the
upper-right corner of the details pane. To undo changes that you
have not saved, click Reload.
To view Help for a control, click
and then click on the control, or select the control and then press
SHIFT+F1.
