Annotating a 2D or 3D Plot

To annotate a plot by placing text or graphics on it:
  1. Create text or paste an image into your worksheet.
  2. Drag-select the text region or graphic so that it is surrounded by a dotted line.
  3. Move the cursor over the dotted line until you see the cursor change to a hand.
  4. Drag the region(s) onto the plot.
  5. Release the mouse button.

Annotations may be freely moved within the plot region by selecting and dragging them. Annotations become a part of a 3D plot; if you move the plot region, they move along with it. With 2D plots, they are simply overlapped with the region, and both the plot and annotation have to be drag-selected to move them together.

If you find that you cannot select an annotation in a 2D plot, right-click the plot region and choose Send to Back. Doing so puts the plot in back of the annotation region, and allows you to select the annotation by clicking on it.

To edit an annotation:

  1. Select it.
  2. Drag it off the plot.
  3. Edit it.
  4. Drag it back onto the plot.

To add titles to a plot:

  1. Double-click on the plot to open the Format dialog box in the case of 3D plots, or the Formatting dialog for 2D plots.
  2. Click on the Title tab. For 2D plots, you click on the Labels tab.
  3. Enter text for the title in the Title text box.
  4. Click to select Above or Below.
  5. Click "Apply" to preview the plot. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

Note:

If you choose Separate Regions from the Format menu, all overlapping regions in your worksheet will separate, including the annotations on top of a graph.
