Confirm the following before starting the recovery process.
- Make sure you have a backup copy of your important data.
- Disconnect all peripherals and external cables from the computer, except for those devices required for a recovery, or the power cord.
- If you are going to use an external DVD drive for the recovery, connect the drive to the computer in advance. If an AC adapter is provided for the external DVD drive, plug the AC adapter into a power supply.
- Recovering your computer system cannot restore the Windows operating system individually.
- Windows and any software settings are restored to the factory condition by a recovery. After the recovery, change the settings back to the desired values.
- Be sure to perform the recovery process to the end. If you do not perform the recovery completely, your computer may become unstable.
- Certain preinstalled software applications include options that allow the applications to uninstall or install themselves. Those software applications installed or uninstalled by using such options may not work properly on your computer after the recovery.
- Installing a software application to modify partition sizes may disable a system recovery or Recovery Media creation.
- Recovering your computer system will delete all the data on the internal HDD/SSD even if the internal HDD/SSD is encrypted with the Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption (BitLocker) feature. It may take several hours to complete the recovery process.
- On models with a fingerprint sensor, recovering your computer system will delete all the fingerprint templates on the internal HDD/SSD.
- If you have set a password to protect your data, be sure to write it down so as not to forget it. If you have forgotten your password and cannot start the recovery process, your computer will need to be sent for repair (you will be charged for this). Contact a VAIO support service representative.
