What parameter can you tune to control the level of segmentation that can be applied to your document? We analyze here the five parameters that typically decide whether a shape is going to be placed in the foreground or the background:

• threshold-level=<0-100>
• pix-filter-level=<0-100>
• inhibit-foreback-level=<0-100>
• shape-filter-level=<0-100>
• block-size=<4-32>

The examples we use here are very complex to segment, with noisy backgrounds or hard-to-segment foregrounds. Typical scanned documents should provide you with much better quality.

To simplify the understanding of the impact of the parameter, we do not consider examples with inversion, in which case some complex side-effects can happen.
